Katy Schafer was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma on April 27th at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale,AZ, following months of undiagnosed and unresolved heath problems in NC. She had surgery April 28th to remove cancer in her small intestine and ovary. She is now undergoing chemotherapy at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. Katy and her husband Mac lived in Scottsdale a few years back as Mac was the pastor at our church, Pinnacle Presbyterian.  They have 4 beautiful children(Hunter,Hannah,Tory and Skye). They now reside in North Carolina where Mac is the Head Pastor at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Katy has a Caringbridge site. To read all about her treatment and her amazing spirit go check it out at www.caringbridge.org/visit/katyschafer.

My daughter read the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr this last school year. To briefly summarize the book, it's a true story of a girl that becomes sick with Leukemia after the atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima. She attempts to fold 1,000 paper cranes in reference to the ancient Japanese story that promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish. When the tsunami hit in Japan this last spring her class made a thousand cranes and sent them to a school in Japan.  Our goal is to make 1,000 paper cranes. You may purchase one with a minimum donation of $5 and all the proceeds will go to the Schafer family to help them offset medical expenses. As for the wish that is to be granted...for a speedy recovery and long, healthy life for our friend Katy.

If you would like to order a crane like the one pictured above...please click donate and donate a minimum of $5 and we will send you a crane. Please include your address and the number of cranes you would like sent. You can also include a short note to Katy.

You rock Katy!
